Thank you to MYSA for sending us this report…
Every one of the now over 20,000 young MYSA players dreams of playing in Europe and over 20 MYSA players have made it so far. But do they dare dream that in their first European match they will score both goals for their team?
After arriving in Germany only a week ago, that is what happened with 22-year Doreen ‘Dodo’ Nabwire who scored both goals for Werder Bremen FC in their 2-2 draw with Hamburg FC at Weser Stadium in Bremen on Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to Gudrun Jevne, Women’s Development Coordinator at Street League, and Rebecca Malcolm for this report:
Great weather, great football, great spirit, great people! – What more could one want for Street League’s 2nd women’s only match day?! Lunch and refreshments? Tick. Over 40 participants? Tick. Skilful organisation from a committed staff team? Tick. A Mercury Music Award Winner in the bright and brilliant Speech Debelle? Tick!
The rising hip hop star, fresh on the heels of her win at the prestigious music awards, attended the tournament and handed out prizes to all the winning teams. Speech felt a particular affinity with the programme, as it focuses on getting under represented groups into sport – in particular homeless women, and she raps openly about her own experiences with homelessness and when she was living in hostels.

Street League uses the power of sport to engage with anyone not in full time education and employment. The match days act as a hook to engage with participants who can go on to do coaching qualifications, sports leadership, drama, self-defence, circus skills, job skills and motivational workshops. These are brilliant as a springboard to employment, education and training. Read more
Grupo Desportivo de Manica’s A team won the provincial football league and now enter the Second Division phase of the season against the best teams from central Mozambique.
Good luck with the next phase and we hope you can get to the first division in 2010.

FC Manica
This was a week for the big boys. They showed us that form is temporary but class is permanent, that the cream will always rise to the top, that the business end of the season is upon us and that the world of sport loves a good cliche. So here’s our countdown:
1) Golf – Tiger Woods produced a Tigerish performance to overhaul Padraig Harrington and win the World Golf Championship at Firestone. It all happened at the par-five 16th hole where Woods struck a magical 8 iron to give himself a birdie and the lead, after the Irishman carded a disastrous triple bogey. Luckily for the rest of us we’ll get to see the two of them pair up at the USPGA Championship on Thursday.
That 8 iron…
2) Cricket – Australia levelled the Ashes series in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon by inflicting an ‘innings and 80 runs’ defeat (that’s huge if you’re not much of a cricket fan) on England. Plenty of great moments from the Aussies but we’ll go for Marcus North’s century as our favourite.
3) X-Games – Travis Pastrana is an X Games legend. Unfortunately even legends get it wrong occasionally, as happened with this Toilet Paper Roll attempt at X Games XV. Read more
The first Street League women’s only match day was held on Wednesday 15th July 2009, celebrating and marking the increased participation of women on Street League’s programmes.
Fifty fantastic players from eight different teams took part. Two teams were from Street League’s own training sessions – Street League Ladies and Somers Town. Six were community teams from all over London: Crouch End Tigers, Camden Town, Look Ahead, Winchester Project, Diversity and Charlton Angels. Read more
