HOCKENHEIM, GERMANY, October 17, 2010 – Two-time Formula One World Champion and Laureus World Sports Academy Member Mika Hakkinen joined German heavyweight champion Axel Schulz and swimming star Franziska van Almsick, both members of the Laureus Friends & Ambassadors programme, to watch an exciting DTM Championship race at Hockenheim.
The winner was Mercedes-Benz driver Paul Di Resta – his third victory in this year’s eight races – which leaves him three points ahead in the championship standings with two rounds to go.
Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher, whose AMG Mercedes C-Class car carries the Laureus logo, had to retire early due to a first-lap collision. He said: “It’s difficult to say who caused that start incident. Some braked too early, some too late. Things like that happen in motor racing.”
The final two DTM races this year are at Adria, Italy, on October 31 and Shanghai, China, on November 28.
Ralf Schumacher and AMG Mercedes are working together to help raise the awareness of Laureus and to encourage more people to become involved in the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Mercedes-Benz is a Global Partner of Laureus.
