For me I think it has to be Lionel Messi who wins this year. Although a very tough category, Messi has been exceptional for a number of years now and it would be fantastic to see a team player win the Award for the first time.

Interesting that Bolt gets nominated after his failure in the biggest event of his year.

It would be Vettel or Djokovic for me. Both were utterly dominant in their respective sports.

  3. Dom Christophers on 11.01.2012 13:01

Messi for me, to dominate in an era where players play more games than ever, and with the standard so high, is nothing short of incredible.

I would like to vote for Messi to win, because he is a pure football and exceptional team player…you can see the energy when he plays! He is absoultely love playing football and he deserved an award! so pls give to him! I also wish to attend the award ceremony, pls let me know if there is any chance for that!

  5. Alessandra on 11.01.2012 13:01

Absolutely Djokovic! It was an incredible season and he is a special guy with a fantastic story!

  6. Michael Coupland on 11.01.2012 17:01

Djokovic in my eyes – 43 matches unbeaten is a unbelievable achievement for any sportsman, its made even more impressive due to the amount of strong competition in his field!

  7. Moran on 11.01.2012 20:01

Novak Djokovic is Sportsman of the Year! He took the entire tennis world by storm in 2011 with his amazing year and raised the bar for everyone else. His achievements: The 41-match streak, the three Grand Slams and five masters 1000), are all the more impressive when you consider his main rivals – Federer and Nadal, two of the all-time greats. He finished with a 10-1 W/L record against the pair and that’s says it all really.

  8. Paula on 11.01.2012 22:01

Djokovic should win the award because apart from winning the ten titles, he beat two of the top tennis players of all time, in the process. And the reason behind at least 4 of his defeats were due to injuries. He is truly deserving of the award.

  9. Wendy on 12.01.2012 13:01

I would like to vote for Novak Djokovic. What he did in 2011 for the tennis world will probably not be done again soon. The winning streak, the Grand Slam titles and the Master titles all added up to an amazing year and he fully deserves to be recognised and rewarded with your Sportsman of the Year Award.

  10. Vaclav on 12.01.2012 17:01

In my opinion the Sportsman of the year should be Novak Djokovic. He accomplished the best ever tennis season in the modern era of ATP. He broke several records and reached the limits that can be broken probably only by himself. Not to speak which sports giants he faced and left behind! By all measures a performance towering above all others in 2011.

  11. Mary on 13.01.2012 19:01

I think the sportman of the year should be Djokovic. Not only for numbers and statistics and because he became n. 1 defeating more and more times 2 tennis players who were dominating the scenes since many years. He is also a fabolous man outside the court, he made believe an entire country that dreams can come true and more than 100.000 people welcomed him back from Wimbledon.

  12. Naveed on 15.01.2012 02:01

The sportsman of the year is Sebastian Vettel. Youngest double world champion(back to back), record number of pole positions in F1 history, and all with a total annihilation of his opponents.

  13. Heike on 15.01.2012 07:01

………….sport stars have to train their condition daily….it is hard work to get so in perfection with body and mind…….

  14. Maryele on 17.01.2012 13:01

  17. Kristina on 05.02.2012 20:02

Novak Djokovic is the clear WINNER. To conquer Federer and Nadal when they are at their best is a true achievement and so he should be Sportsman of the Year (by miles)!!!

  18. tuchy on 05.02.2012 20:02

    Novak Djokovic by far!

  19. Zorica on 05.02.2012 20:02

    Novak Djoković, absolutely!

  20. Bojana on 05.02.2012 21:02

    NOVAK DJOKOVIC !

  21. Greg on 05.02.2012 23:02

It’s really enough with Messi/soccer mania. Considering amount of invested money I am sure it will be little Argentinian or Vetel. But, undoubtetly, sportsman of the year should be Novak Djokovic. No one could deny his 2011 achievements. As a Brit (again) I’m sure he deserve this awared but he won’t receive it. Another kinda joke of award I suspect.

  22. Allex on 05.02.2012 23:02

Absolutely and definitely ,the one and only – Novak Djokovic

  23. milenka glisovic on 06.02.2012 10:02

  24. Alessandra on 06.02.2012 13:02
