We want to take a minute to congratulate one of our Ambassadors, the South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, on his momentous 400 metres result in Italy this week.
Oscar won his race and clocked a time of 45.07 seconds in doing so. Now, this is so important because this time is .18 seconds within what is called the ‘A’ standard time, previously Oscar had only managed to reach ‘B’ standard time.
By reaching the ‘A’ standard, Oscar is now racing at the level to make him eligible for the Olympic Games.
What makes this so remarkable is that Oscar has achieved most of his success in Paralympic competition. This means that Oscar is a step closer to racing in both the World Championships this August as well as the London Olympic Games next year.
Oscar was born with congenital absence of the fibula in both legs. When he was 11-months-old his legs were amputated halfway between his knees and ankles. Despite this, he has made a huge impact on Paralympic athletics and this next achievement really is testament to his dedication to his sport.
Following his success this week, we are really hoping to see Oscar run in the London Olympics next year.
