Hello Laureus Blog readers,

Just like in previous years the Triathlon in Hamburg showed why it has become one of the most prestigious Triathlons in the World. I was impressed when I saw a sea of people around the proven circuit through the city of Hamburg. It created a spectacular atmosphere which certainly left an impression on every single one of us almost nine thousand athletes.

Parallel to the World Cup Series agegroup-athletes had the opportunity to compete in a sprint- and Olympic-distance Triathlon. This year’s edition featured several starters of the Laureus Foundation who had bought their tickets at an auction for a good cause and prepared themselves earlier at the German Sport University Cologne. (http://www.laureus.de/trainingstag-spoho-laureus-triathlon-team).

Imke Oelerich and I are both students of said University. We competed in the sprint distance and were able to place very well. After a rough swim Imke was able to work herself through the field and finished on a strong third place. I left the water already in front. A position I would stay in for the rest of the day. After a strong performance on both the bike and the run I topped the timesheets two minutes faster than any of my competitors.

The olympic-distance-Triathlon took place on Sunday. The Laureus team with Johann Ackermann, Thomas Sonntag, Puni Manunzio, Heiko Schmidt, Philippe Amarante, Heiko Hartmann and Carsten Korèn managed to win the overall team-classement. (Due to a minor error Ackermann wasn’t noted as a starter for the Laureus team, so the official result showed them as second).

All Laureus-starters were very pleased with their preparation weekend at the German Sport University Cologne and their possibility to help and raise awareness for the Laureus Foundation at the ITU Triathlon in Hamburg.

Yours,

Sebastian Zeller
