Ralf Schumacher scored his first points of the season and finished sixth in the latest round of the DTM touring car championship on the Nuerburgring in Germany.

Nurburgring is close to Schumacher’s home town Kerpen. He said “You could say it’s my ‘home track’. I know the circuit well and I’m familiar with the changeable weather here in the Eifel – the way the rain can suddenly set in. In the 2008 race here, I scored my first point in the DTM series in extremely wet conditions.”

The winner of a thrilling race on Nurburgring was Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler – his second win in the first five races of the year.

In the previous race on the Norisring, Schumacher won the qualifying session which secured him his first DTM pole position. However, he finished the race in 11th position due to a drive-thru penalty for a jump-start

Ralf, whose car is carrying the Laureus logo this season, said: “I started well and avoided the incident at the first corner. In the end I was a bit faster than Jamie, but I didn’t want to take chances so I settled for my first points of the season. Now I am really happy.”
