How did you find out about Fight for Peace?

I found out about the programme through friends who were participating in Fight for Peace activities

What is the best thing about project?

Fight for Peace is open to everyone, diverse and does not discriminate, so it does not matter what your skin colour, religious or ethnic background is. At Fight for Peace, everyone is welcome.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt since being involved in Fight for Peace?

I have learnt that it is not OK to judge anyone because everyone is the same, just because people choose different things, it does not make them right or wrong.

What award did you win?

I won the member of the year award

To be honest, I would have liked the award to be given to someone else, I don’t do what I do to be recognize, but it feels good that I am making a difference.

What is your dream?

I would like to help underprivileged young people in areas that are forgotten about and to show them that they are someone. Luke Dowdney has shown me that one person can make a difference and you don’t need to wait for others to wait for you. He is an inspiration to me and to all the young people at Fight for Peace.

What role can sport play in young people’s lives?

Sport not only helps with fitness and health, but through sport you make friends, and this takes your mind of things. You can also learn valuable lessons about working hard.

At fight for Peace we have, personal development lessons for older kids that happens once a month, which teaches us a lot about life and basic ways of making better decisions.

What is your message to other young people?

When you look at people from an underprivileged background, don’t judge them, get to know them first before you put a name or tag to them.

I hope Fight for Peace grows. We are planning to expand to Canning Town and other areas around the world. Hope to grow and share what we have learnt with other organisations.

Thank you very much Shakeela for this interview, we wish that you can fullfil your dreams. Thanks also to Annalisa Sonzogni for taking pictures.
