NORISRING, GERMANY, July 4, 2010 – Top racing driver Ralf Schumacher, whose AMG Mercedes C-Class car carries the Laureus logo, finished eleventh in the Norisring leg of the DTM touring car championship.
Ralf, who competed in Formula One for 11 years, winning six Grand Prix in his career and is the brother of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, now lies eleventh in the DTM Championship after the first three races.
The winner of a thrilling race on the Norisring was Mercedes-Benz driver Jaime Green.
Ralf started from pole position for the first time in the DTM and posted the fastest lap of the race with 48.616 secs on lap 65. But he was given a drive-through penalty point due to a jump-start and dropped down the order before ending in eleventh place.
Ralf, whose car is carrying the Laureus logo for the rest of the season, said: “Today I gave away a possible race win. I am awfully sorry for my team that we were not able to show how strong our C-Class was here at the Norisring. Shortly before the start I was looking for the clutch’s bite point when the car made a brief move whilst the light was still red. My speed was very good which is also demonstrated by my fastest race lap. This weekend motivates us even more for the next race at the Nürburgring and for the rest of the season.”
In the previous race in Lausitz, Schumacher finished a creditable ninth after starting the race in 17th. Moments before the race began Ralf joined the Norisring driver’s parade with the Laureus smart electric drive car, which will be placed on show stands for the remainder of the week.
During the year there will be six more DTM races – in Germany, China, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The next DTM race will take place at the Nurburgring in Germany on August 8.
