Dear Laureus,

We are happy and proud to tell you that, with all your support, we have managed to raise the funds to participate in the Football for Hope Festival in South Africa from June 28 – July 11, 2010. On behalf of whole MTG and especially the boys and girls and the leaders who have been selected to represent MTG in Johannesburg we would like to thank you very much.

Thank you… without your support we would not have been able to participate in this event.

We are proud that we will be part of the first ever World Cup held in Africa. Since the Kenyan national team didn’t manage to qualify for the World Cup 2010 all Kenyan eyes are on the Kenyan participants in the Football for Hope Festival.

As you probably know the Football for Hope Festival is an official element of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaTM. The Football for Hope Festival is organised by FIFA, streetfootballworld, the Organising Committee of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the City of Johannesburg. It is a two-week festival of education, culture and football.  The football tournament will be played with mixed teams.

Since MTG is working with girls we asked the boys in the communities where we run our programmes to select boys that met the criteria that were set by the selection committee. From September until December 2009 we have done an intensive selection programme to make sure that all commmunities had a chance to qualify and that we were sure to have the best possible team that we could select.

The boys and girls that were selected to represent Moving the Goalposts in South Africa are:

Mbeyu Esse Akida, Fathime Khamisi, Rehema Ibrahim, Sarah Kitsao, Abdallah Angore, Philip Mwangi, Azidin Salim and Mohammed Hamad.

Coach: Clarice Mrengi

Young Leader: Lilian Mbeyu

Delegation leader: Mr. Damigott John Migot

Our substitutes  (who are not traveling, but are part of the team and who attend every practice) are:  Bosco Baraka Charo, David Kitsao, Halima Ngowa and Riziki Baya.

The whole group practices every Sunday: not only football techniques and fair play, but also a cultural performance.

MTG is ready to show the world the talents from the youth in Kilifi!

With kind regards,

Cocky van Dam
