Thursday 11th February 2010, Milton Keynes, UK
Last Thursday saw a fantastic day out at the Dayton Track and at Mercedes-Benz UK HQ for the youngsters involved in the Laureus Motorv8 programme. After a 6 week programme of car mechanics, karting and social lessons, participants are rewarded with a fun Finals Day. This encompasses a trip to the Daytona Track where they have the opportunity to ride in a 2 seater on the main track and to test their karting skills on the smaller circuit.
The participants are then pitted against one another as they compete to disassemble and then re-assemble a go kart in the fastest time possible.
The day also involves a visit to the prestigious Mercedes Benz Headquarters, conveniently located down the road from the Daytona Track. There the participants are shown round by employee volunteers and challenged to a short quiz. They have the opportunity to get inside some real live Mercedes vehicles, ranging from a tiny little Smart car to a 4.5 tonne Artego lorry!
Prizes were then handed out by Gordon Freshwater, Corporate Events Manager at Mercedes Benz UK, to the winners of the mechanics competition and the fastest lap. These were:
Mechanics winners:
Ryan Baker
Charlotte Walker Moore
Joe Scott
David Guest
Alex Keevill
Fastest Lap:
Jason Dewsbury
Laureus would like to thank everyone at Trax, Daytona and Mercedes Benz who worked so hard to make it a fantastic day for all involved.
