The first Street League women’s only match day was held on Wednesday 15th July 2009, celebrating and marking the increased participation of women on Street League’s programmes.
Fifty fantastic players from eight different teams took part. Two teams were from Street League’s own training sessions – Street League Ladies and Somers Town. Six were community teams from all over London: Crouch End Tigers, Camden Town, Look Ahead, Winchester Project, Diversity and Charlton Angels. Read more
1. Golf – Tom Watson didn’t win The Open Championship but he captured the hearts of millions around the world with an unbelievable performance at the age of 59. If Watson had won it would have been one of the sporting stories of the century, but his bogey at the 18th hole on the final day saw him slip in to playoff with Stewart Cink, which he eventually lost.
2. Cricket - After scraping a draw in Cardiff, the England cricket team managed to post their first win over the Australians at Lords since 1934. Read more
Thursday 16th July, Daytona Go-Kart Track, Milton Keynes
The signs around the track were numerous and clear for all to see:

None of the kids I was watching seemed to take the slightest bit of notice today as the MotorV8 project culminated with the final day of racing at Daytona track, Milton Keynes. The track attendants were certainly kept busy throughout with pileups, skids, power slides and daring overtaking manoeuvres as the young drivers on show flew around the course at breakneck speed to try and gain that extra half a second!
These future Lewis Hamiltons (some as young as 13) have been taking part in the MotorV8 6 week course, in conjunction with Mercedes, a project that works with disadvantaged young people. The course mixes mechanics and karting with discussion groups that address social issues in order to promote teamwork and broaden their skills at the same time. Read more
Sore feet, sore bum but a great sense of satisfaction.
The final day was a huge success and I feel we were able to raise decent levels of awareness and get our message across to the right people.
15 of us set off from Wembley stadium in the morning under fairly clear skies. Being England this didn’t last very long and, after about 15 minutes, the showers came and we were all drenched. Our spirits remained high, helped by Lucy and Tola from Choice FM who you’d expect to have smiles on their faces whatever the weather. Read more
